With over 15 years of building, developing and growing brands I have decided to build the most important and valuable brand of my entire life. Mine…my personal brand.
I’ve always said that we grow and change in that place of unknown, that place in which we have never been. That place can be scary, uncomfortable, and painful yet rewarding and fulfilling all at the same time. With that said, I believe that there are two ways in which we can grow and change.
Growth Scenarios:
The world around us pushes (sometimes kicks us) into that place of unknown. Your company restructures or it merges with another company, the economy takes a turn for the worse, heart attack, cancer or illness throws you into a place of unknown.
You can move yourself into a place of unknown. You can choose to take a step into a place of discomfort and growth.
I believe these are the only two ways in which we grow. Disrupt yourself, or you will be disrupted.
The last 4 years of my life have been ones of rapid growth for me. The beginning of that was a case of growth scenario #1, in which the world kicked me into a scary unknown place. My husband was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age. I was travelling immensely with my career at the time, we had two young children, and now we were facing a reality in which we had a couple of choices. We could retreat into a place of bitterness, anger, hate, and resentment and essentially give up. Or we could leverage this opportunity to grow, seeking meaning in life, and truly live.
Needless to say, we chose the later. We choose to put ourselves in a position of growth and opportunity. I’m happy to share that my husband is now cancer-free, and healthier than he ever has been – in body, mind and spirit. It’s been an incredible few years of growth, impact and incredible life experiences for us all personally and professionally. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the planet’s most insightful and incredible leaders, grow massive sales portfolios, and work with outstanding people and companies to develop strategically and tap into potential they never thought possible!
I believe that truly living includes me stepping forward into a new place each and every day. As a result, I have grown and have had more of an impact on the world around me in the past few years than I have in the decades leading up to this moment. This also means that I have fallen and stumbled more than ever before. The growth, learning and experiences that I have had, make the decision to be bold, be brave and brand myself that much more obvious.
With that said, there are a number of reasons that I have chosen to embark on this journey to build and invest in my personal brand.
Invest in myself – I know that if my bucket is empty, I have nothing to give. So I know that I need to invest in myself, my brand. It not only demonstrates to others that it’s ok to do the same, but it creates healthy examples in the relationships I foster.
Continuity – regardless of the brand, job title, etc. who I am and the value that I bring remains constant and in tact, and builds day by day. Each new chapter of my life will not have me building and re-developing my brand, and I will not fall victim to change scenario #1’s (change around me forcing me to change). I am Monica who lives by four core values: growth, impact, gratitude and compassion. You will soon learn that I am so much more than a sales and marketing professional.
Identity – I was once the person that associated my self-worth, value, happiness and identity to my job title, size of paycheque, and other superficial aspects of my life. Not anymore! I love developing and contributing to the growth of both people and brands, but am not defined by them. I am a contributor to their growth and development and each of them to mine.
Live my values - I live each and every day by my four core values. I have taken several years and more than 380 days of daily journaling to clarify and study the core values or personal leadership philosophy that I choose to live by each and every day. Monicalewicki.com holds me accountable and allows me to share and build upon them.
To sell is human – delivering value to the world is critical to professional success as well as success in relationships and life as a whole. One of the key learning’s that I have had early in life is that no one likes to be told what to do…not even my children. In order to get “that” job, be on a project, to grow, have impact, connect, engage, etc. we need to embrace the notion of selling. Once you’ve been on either end of a great sales experience, you’ll know that it isn’t what I call the ‘spray and pray’ experience. A great sales person guides the buyer to their solution through a skilled conversation of uncovering problems, needs and potential solutions in which the buyer makes the decision themselves and does not feel as though they were told what to do. I believe that from a sales & marketing perspective I (and monicalewicki.com) can provide value both professionally and personally.
You don’t even need to be comfortable or prolific at selling. I will help you with that! Just the acknowledgement of the necessity and power of selling in so many aspects of our lives, and the rest we will make happen together!
The data and evidence is overwhelming that healthier people build healthier brands and companies. More engaged and aware individuals bond together to create unstoppable teams, cultures and relationships. I have zero doubt that, given the right fit, my sales and marketing expertise combined with my journaling and leadership insights can help you, your family, friends, colleagues, team and company grow in manners that you never thought possible. With that said, I am choosing to put myself out here and solidify my personal brand so that I can strengthen yours. What you’ll soon learn about me is that I absolutely believe that the most important question we will ever answer is:
“Do I choose to follow the crowd or do I choose to follow my heart?”
I know in my heart which choice I need to make despite what criticisms I will receive, what stories and motives people will conclude that I have. I am a Game Changer and this strategy is an example of me walking the talk.
